Obituary

Milton Schwartz passed away surrounded by his loving family October 15, 2015 at the age of 94. Milt was an inspiration to all who knew him during his long life in Chicago. His radiant personality, charm, and humor touched all who met him. In every interaction, Milt had a way of making you feel comfortable and appreciated. Milt lives on in the memories of his wife Florence, his children Ben (Shellie) Schwartz, Steven (the late Wendy) Schwartz, and Syndi (David) Salat, and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a loving husband, admired father, cherished grandfather, and brother who offered boundless warmth and wisdom, love and support. Milt’s warm personality endeared him to many. Milt grew up in Chicago and joined the Army after graduating from Roosevelt High School. As an army soldier he travelled through Europe, helping to liberate people who had suffered under Nazi oppression. He fought with bravery and commitment and was a hero to those he helped. After the war, he returned to Chicago to work in his family’s lingerie business. He helped grow Schwartz’s Intimate Apparel from a small store to a Chicago icon that has been in business for almost 100 years. He continued to work there until he passed away, charismatically sharing his smile with employees, customers, and everyone he encountered. Even a trip to the bank was an opportunity to ask how someone was doing, listen to their stories, and share a laugh. He loved people and people loved him. The funeral service to remember Milt’s full and vibrant life will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at the Shalom Memorial Funeral Home,

My condolences to the Schwartz family. I will remember him to be on of the most kindest, warmest and sincere people to have know. He loved his family and this was evident to all who came in contact with him. Who could forget his smile? I hope that all the good that was Milt will bring comfort to you during this time. My prayers are with you.

I am so saddened for the loss of Milt.What an amazing,charismatic, man who always made me feel so comfortable in my work enviorment from the day I began working at Schwartz’s 24 years ago. I was always amazed how he ran up and down the stairs two at a time ,and his wonderful sense of humor and profound love for his beloved Florence,and his children,grandchildren and great grandchildren.I will miss you dearly……Merle
